Introduction to Backyard Conservation
This module helps learners understand more about local conservation issues and actions that they can take to help. We use 'backyard conservation' in this module to mean any actions you can take at home or in your local area that can benefit native wildlife and wild places. This module provides information applicable to anywhere in the world, but has a particular focus on Aotearoa New Zealand.

Completion requirements

What wildlife conservation organisations or projects exist in your part of the world?

For example, in Aotearoa New Zealand there are lots of organisations such as Forest & Bird, the Predator Free 2050 project, Aotea Great Barrier Environmental Trust, Revive our Gulf.

Find out about activity that helps to protect threatened species or habitats in your area.

  • What species or habitats are being protected or restored?
  • What parts of the world is the focus on? E.g. Internationally, specific region or country, local area within a country, individual island.
  • What methods are being used? E.g. education, pest control, poaching prevention, pollution reduction.
  • Is it possible for the public to volunteer or contribute to this work?
